REVIEW
THE STATE OF BLISS
The Toronto Star
by Geoff Chapman

Singer Plato is hip and slick, never following obvious vocal routes, which is why the Vancouver-based warbler's latest disc of 13 songs (including six of her own) is a delight. She fronts three different rhythm trios with sidemen including alto ace Cam Ryga and pianists Bob Murphy and Ross Taggart. Plato is at her best duelling the melodic line ("Blue Room" is a good example) and shows off her big range with octave leaps on her own material, notably "Big Black Crow," while the simple but heartfelt "Here It Is" is very effective.
