BIO

KARIN PLATO is an acclaimed Canadian Juno nominated Jazz vocalist and recording artist. She has performed throughout Canada and in the western USA for concert societies and at jazz festivals. She works as a composer, arranger, music educator, concert producer, and is the artistic director of the JOY OF JAZZ CONCERTS series in Vancouver BC.

She has three times been nominated Canadian Jazz Vocalist of the Year at the National Jazz Awards and she is a West Coast Music Award nominee.

Karin latest project includes writing new music as well as arranging songs from various genres: jazz, pop and country, all specifically for her quintet. This quintet features Vancouver jazz artists Chris Gestrin (piano), James Danderfer (clarinet), Laurence Mollerup (bass), and Joe Poole (drums).

Her latest recording with this quintet THIS COULD BE THE ONE was done in the famed Warehouse Studio in Vancouver (Bryan Adam's studio) with recording engineer Sheldon Zaharko, who was able to capture a warm and natural "live off the floor" sound. Special guests include blues star Jim Byrnes and Rebecca Shoichet, who each sing a duet with Karin, and trombonist Rod Murray is the featured guest on two other songs.

THIS COULD BE THE ONE was released on vinyl and CD in September, 2018 and is available for purchase directly from Karin’s website and at certain select stores in Canada and on iTunes and Spotify. A special 180 gram vinyl limited edition is available through Arioso Records.

"There's a sense of danger about her work that's enthralling."
